Eminem Biography – Becoming a Rapper

Eminem biography starts with the birth of Marshall Bruce Mathers III on October 17, 1972, in Missouri. Eminem endured a hard childhood after his father walked out in his infancy and his mother brought him up alone in poverty. Eminem started performing at the age of 14. He dropped out of school when he was 17 and began rapping for underground hip hop audiences, where he grew popular. In 1996, his debut album ‘Infinite’ was released but did not do well in the market. Eminem’s big break came when he caught the attention of Dr Dre, post his win in Wake Up Show’s Freestyle Performer of the Year award and getting second place in the 1997 Rap Olympics. He was signed on by Dr Dre’s label to record his next album, ‘The Slim Shady LP’. The release of this album in 1999 began a new phase in Eminem biography. The album was a big success and became triple platinum; but its controversial lyrics dealing with murder did not find favor with many. Eminem’s next album ‘The Marshall Mathers LP’ came out 2000 and became the fastest-selling hip hop and solo album in US. The next album ‘The Eminem Show’ was released in 2002 and became another major hit. It sold over a million copies in its first week and was certified 8 times platinum. Eminem’s other albums include, Encore released in 2004, Relapse in 2009 and Recovery in 2010.

Two of his songs ’97 Bonnie and Clyde’ and ‘Guilty Conscience’ were condemned for containing references to killing and inciting murder. His single ‘Stan’, which has been included in Rolling Stone magazine’s ‘500 Greatest Songs of All Time’, also contained violent lyrics about a fan killing his pregnant girlfriend and himself. His hit single ‘Just Lose It’ displeased many people as it was considered to be disrespectful to Michael Jackson.
